oTunes: My favourite times at Orange Academy (Part 1)

Here's to the crazy ones... I am having the time of my life at Orange Academy ; Africa's foremost practical school of Idea and Brand Management. At Orange, nothing is predictable. From the legendary notoriously peppered rice called " The Bit** " to lecture rooms under witty code names, Orange Academy is not for regular homo sapiens. Creativity is the hallmark of this place. A visit to Orange is sure to leave you with an indelible impression. Conformity is a sin here. The school was founded by Kehinde Bademosi A.K.A "Kenny Brandmuse" who is the Chief Imagination Officer. Kenny surmises of himself " Whenever I help someone realise their creative self  and I see that big smile on their face, I know my job is done. That's why I was born ". I am currently enrolled in the Integrated Brand Experience (IBX) course; the flagship programme built on a lofty vision to build professionals who understand the logic and magic of brand...

Democracy in the trenches

Fragile or not, our liberty is hard earned. We have come a long way It is break time and I'm sitting at my desk surfing the net. Then a senior colleague comes to me to inform me that I am wanted by the boss. Next, I am in front of the boss and he's asking me to help develop a copy for his son who is campaigning for the prestigious post of the Head Boy. I would have been shocked but I am kind of getting used to the idea. The last time something like this happened, I was there as an observer. The discussion was between another senior colleague and the HR Manager. The senior colleague who happens to be a sit-mate had been commissioned to develop a copy for the HR Manager's daughter who was equally gunning for a prefect position. These two moments did stir up some form of nostalgia in me. The idea of pupils choosing their prefects was a luxury in my own time. Times have indeed changed.  When the General kicked the bucket The day the military dictator...

Thinking is required

Any faith that frees man of playing his part is an irresponsible faith. God will not do for man what man should do for himself but it is not given to man to play God. Really, what is man? Its funny how man becomes so religious to the point of divorcing common sense in matters where thinking is required. The man (Karl Marx) that said religion is the opium of the masses knew well the propensity of man to tend to often find solace in something. There is a vacuum in man that only God can fill. I won't stop reciting the fact that man is spirit who lives in a body and has a soul. Emphasis here is that man is spirit . Wisdom is required here. Do we even know who we worship? Every right thinking African know quite well that the white man did not only bring along his guns, he came with the Bible and education. The Quran didn't just appear, the evangelistic Muslim traders bequeathed their faith to us. Our fore fathers were traditional worshipers. They knew God...

It wasn't me

The woman you gave to me caused this- Adam What is it about we humans that make us quick to lay charges at the feet of others? This attitude is as old as the first and greatest sin; rebellion. Accepting responsibility for our actions is not something we are very good at doing and this is not something that's unique to this generation. Since that incident in the Garden of Eden when man ate the fruit, (I doubt if those fruits were apples as we often tend to imagine) and thereafter laid the blame at the doorstep of Eve as having instigated him to eat of the forbidden fruit, we have been inherently unrelenting in playing the abdication game; the transfer of blame to others but ourselves. This blog post is a story from my childhood where I was an active participant in the blame game. As a child growing up in a small town, part of the memories that linger on even today was that we had pets. At a time, we had three dogs and a cat (Beauty; a very playful and dirt...
