Audacity of Hypocricy: The best of us has failed

It is highly hypocritical for pot to call kettle black- Age-long wisdom

How many times have we failed to act-out our words. Broken promises have become familiar spirits. How many times do we demand from others much higher standards than we demand of ourselves. Is it true that everyone is a thief but only the one(s) that gets caught is called a criminal? One minute we are quoting from the holy scriptures, another minute we are defending the rights of a bunch to self-destruct. You hear stuffs like "Don't ruffle feathers". "Be careful not to badge too much into the walls".  If you do too much, you become controversial. If you play sidon-look, you are doomed to be irrelevant. This piece is not about what "they" said or didn't say. It is about how hypocrisy rules in the hall-way of fame and obscurity.

A colleague at work sent me an online article that examined this subject. The author didn't mince words about how shameful it is when many in spite of gregarious claims to be apostles of excellence engage in this shameful trade called hypocrisy. Just like corruption with two patronizing sides (the Giver & the Taker), the game of hypocrisy is played not by hypocrites as many would chorus. The actors in this ponzi scheme are Psychopaths and Psychophants and their stock-in-trade is a keg of lie. Who is deceiving who? How many times have we truly rejoiced with people for the new joy in their lives without falling into a pit of self assessment where we ask "When will my time come?

Of a truth, life is a ceaseless continuum of transactions. I have often pondered and asked "Why do tabloids carry more often than not bizarre headlines? The answer is simple. It is because bad news travel faster and yes bad news sell. Wait a minute. If bad news sell, it means that there is a demand side and a supply side to the equation. If this is the case, then don't blame it on the media. You know who to blame it on if you have to. For the record, this is not an attack on journalism or media. It is just a phenomenon worth thinking about. The other day when Peter was released from Herod's prison, the same people that claimed to be praying for him, took to their heels when he appeared. They thought it was his ghost that appeared. You cannot be fooled by appearances. People can so bask in the euphoria of activities. The blind leading the blind. I call this the audacity of hypocrisy.

Everyday, I meet with people who claim to be genuinely interested in change but in a very weird sense almost fight the change. How often do we genuinely celebrate the joy in the lives of other people without being threatened? Well, all of us claim to be happy for others. Joyce Meyer once shared a story that espouses the hypocrisy of the human nature. She was playing golf with a friend and at a point she received a phone call about a colleague in ministry who just bought a jet. Immediately she lost her interest in the game. She recorded how upon hearing this news, she felt into a deep pit of envy. Like Joyce, how many of us can admit our hypocrisy and vanity?

The conclusion of the matter herein is that the human nature is doomed in itself. We are such a mess without the help of God and His spirit. The best of us have failed and will fail without the divine enablement. I reckon that the human nature if left to itself will self-destruct but when we allow the immaculate grace of God to work in us, we become thoroughly furnished unto all good works. Man is a SPIRIT, he lives in a BODY and he has a SOUL.
